Working Holiday Visa

Many people ask us how they can combine work and a holiday in Canada (it's a big country, so it's a good idea to stay for several months and work a little to cover your travel expenses).

AUSTRALIA

Don't delay! Working holiday visas are offered to only 7,500 applicants this year. Applications take 4-6 weeks to be processed and the cost for the application is AU$165.

Working in Canada 2006 criteria:
  • You must hold an Australian passport which is valid for your entire stay in Canada
  • You must be between 18-30 years (inclusive) at the time of your application.
  • Applicants must be able to enter Canada under the Canada Immigration Act and regulations
  • You must not have previously used a Letter of introduction for this program whether you have worked in Canada or not
  • You may not enter Canada if you have been charged with any of these offences: assault, theft, drunk driving, OR possession, supply, or cultivation of cannabis or any other drug

IRELAND

Apply online to work and play in Canada . You can apply as a student or non-student. Time is of the essence - apply as soon as possible. The fee for this program is €379 which includes your first night's accommodation, a voucher for bus transfer, orientation, and a fast-tracked Social Insurance Number (SIN).

Work Canada Student Programme 2006
  • You must be aged between 18-35 at the time of application and at time of entry to Canada
  • Applicants must hold an Irish passport and reside in Ireland at the time of application
  • You must be a full-time student at a third-level educational institution in the Republic of Ireland for the year 04/05
  • You must be studying for a degree or national diploma in an academic field
  • Applicants must be able to enter Canada no later than December 31, 2006

Under 35 Work Canada Programme 2006

  • You must be aged between 18 and 35 at the time of your application and upon your entry into Canada
  • Applicants must hold an Irish passport and reside in the Republic of Ireland
  • You cannot be registered in full-time studies
  • You must not have previously participated in the Under 35 program
  • Part-time students are eligible to apply

 

JAPAN

5000 places available in 2004 on a first come first served basis.Eligibility for Visa

The Government of Canada, through the Canadian Embassy in Tokyo, will issue free of charge, an employment authorization for a Working Holiday in Canada to persons who meet each of the following requirements:

  • are Japanese citizens and are residing in Japan;
  • intend primarily to holiday in Canada for an extended period (maximum 1 year);
  • have not previously participated in the program;
  • are between 18 to 30 years of age at the time of the receipt of the application;
  • possess a valid passport and a return ticket or sufficient funds with which to purchase such a ticket;
  • possess sufficient funds for their maintenance, including medical expenses, during the period of initial stay in Canada;
  • are in good health and of good character; and
  • do not have a pre-arranged job in Canada.

KOREA

NEW ZEALAND

This year 2000 applications are approved for New Zealanders to work in Canada . Get your application in early as they are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. The fee for this program is NZ$180. Check your criteria and download your application.
  • The 2004 program is on first come first served basis for the 2000 places on offer
  • The application form can be downloaded from January, 2004 from the following web site

  • The places always fill up quickly for New Zealand so it is recommended you apply as soon as possible after January 6.
  • The cost is NZ$180 payable by bank cheque or postal money order only.

  • You must hold a New Zealand passport valid for your entire stay in Canada
  • You must be between 18-30 years (inclusive) at the time of your application
  • Applicants must qualify for admission to Canada under the Canadian Immigration Act and Regulations
  • You must not have been previously issued a Letter of Introduction for the NZWHP whether or not it has been used

 

SOUTH AFRICA

  • Visa can take from 3 weeks to 3 months to obtain
  • Cost $425 USD
  • No Gap year/high school or foreign students may apply

  • must have Canadian designated doctor's medical examination report
  • must have $1000 CAD in bank account
  • must be over 18 years old

SWEDEN

UNITED KINGDOM

The UK offers Work Canada programs for students and non-students. Students currently in school can spend summer break in Canada. Those in their final year at school can stay in Canada for up to a year. Students can take part in the Work Canada program more than once. Non-student visas, however, can only be issued once. Application fees for this program are £160 plus a £5 fee to join BUNAC.

  • You must hold a British or Irish passport
  • Applicants must be aged 18-35 (inclusive) when applying for the program
  • You must be a current full-time student enrolled in a degree-level course or equivalent at a UK university, or a gap year student who is enrolled in university starting in 2006
  • You must reside in the UK during your application process
Work Canada criteria - NON-STUDENTS
  • You must hold a British passport
  • Applicants must be aged 18-35 (inclusive) at the time of application to the program
  • You must be a resident of the UK during your application process

 

U.S.A.

Work and Travel Canada Program Requirements:
  • A US citizen (preferably holding a US passport) aged 18-30 inclusive;
  • A full-time student taking at least eight credit hours and enrolled for either Fall 2005 or Spring 2006 at an accredited college or university. Proof of student status must be either an official transcript or a signed letter on official stationery from your school. You must enter Canada no later than 31st December 2006.
  • Please note that US students on study or semester abroad (except in Canada) who are still considered full-time at a US college or university ARE eligible for the program. You should also note that while on this visa you cannot attend any educational institutions and take any courses in Canada other than English or French as a second language.
